Splice is usually the weakest part of steel cord conveyor systems. Splice failure is a top reason for belt downtime. Hot splicing is recommended for Continental steel cord belts, delivering highest splice strength and service life matching belt body.
Procedure: Lock belt → strip rubber and separate steel cords precisely → clean cords and apply core rubber → lay core & cover rubber with evenly spaced cords → close vulcanizer, heat up, pressurize and hold curing time → cool down and trim belt edges.
Three vulcanization parameters: temperature, pressure and curing time must follow Continental technical specification strictly. Acceptance criteria: No bubble or missing rubber on splice surface; evenly aligned cords without offset; splice strength meets DIN22131; no edge lifting or delamination.
Splicing crews must be experienced with steel cord vulcanization. After splicing, online monitoring system can continuously check splice zone for early delamination risk.
