Bulk port terminals run 24/7 for coal, ore and grain. Belts require high reliability. Ship loaders and stacker-reclaimers involve moving and luffing structures, bringing special selection requirements.
Long main gallery conveyors with high throughput and tension normally adopt Continental ST steel cord belts. Low elongation ensures stable operation and less take-up maintenance. Boom belts on stacker-reclaimers and ship loaders are short moving sections, usually EP fabric belts with good flex fatigue resistance under repeated boom movement.
For highly abrasive iron ore and nickel ore, Survivor heavy abrasion cover is recommended. Grain transport can use food-grade light belts. Coal handling may need flame-retardant anti-static belts. In coastal salt spray environment, galvanized steel cords reduce corrosion risk.
Ports also value belt monitoring. Conti MultiProtect online monitoring system can send early rip damage alerts and avoid costly emergency shutdown in continuous terminal operation.
